Hello dear followers,

Welcome to Day 14 of my cycling journey from Brisbane to Melbourne. Today was not the most adventurous day of the expedition, but it was an important day for making progressand covering some miles. Over the past few days I have had to spend time doing some maintenance and adjustments on the tricycle and trailer, which meant the daily distances were lower than planned. Because of that, today became a “catch-up” day where the goal was simply to cover some ground and make up a little lost time.

Most of the ride today followed the A1 Pacific Highway heading south. It is not always the most scenic road to ride, but it allows steady progress and today that was the priority. The weather also played its part, with heavy cloud cover and occasional rain throughout the day. The grey skies meant that the views were not quite as spectacular as some of the earlier coastal sections, but the landscape still has its own character with long stretches of bushland, wetlands, and glimpses of the coastline as the route approaches the Hunter region.

Despite the straightforward route, the ride was not completely without challenges. During the day I had another small issue with the trailer which required a roadside repair on the highway. Fortunately it was something I could fix with the tools I am carrying, and after a short stop I was able to continue south again. I don't think I should have it so heavily loaded.

By the end of the afternoon I reached Newcastle, which is a great milestone on the journey. Newcastle is one of the major coastal cities of New South Wales and sits right on the edge of the Hunter Valley region, famous for its beaches, harbour, and long maritime history. After many nights camping along the coast, arriving here also means a bit of comfort for the evening. I am staying with a friend, which means a proper bed, a chance to wash my clothes, and the opportunity to recharge both myself and the equipment before continuing further south tomorrow.

Even though today was more about distance than adventure, it feels good to have covered around 110 kilometres and to be back on schedule. From here the expedition will continue down the New South Wales coastline, with Sydney slowly getting closer on the horizon.
