CHILL Expedition – Day 17

Hello dear followers,

After spending the past five days with a wonderful family, which was an incredibly enjoyable and memorable experience, today marked a big transition in the journey. Michael came down in the morning and we carried out a full trike swap-over. Up until now, I had been riding a prototype model that was originally used during the development phase — it was the only option available before the expedition began.

Now that the production tricycles have arrived after I left Brisbane, I’ve been upgraded to the final version. The improvements are immediately noticeable, and I already feel much more confident riding this trike. It’s a big step forward, and I’m sure this one will carry me reliably through the remainder of the journey.

I set off from Kangy Angy after a solid breakfast with the family, feeling well rested and ready for the ride ahead. Today’s goal was a major milestone — reaching Sydney.

The weather was on my side in the sense that I avoided any rain, although the sky remained dark and threatening for most of the day, creating a bit of tension as I rode. The route took me through the Gosford region, where the landscape was a mix of busy roads and scenic sections, gradually building towards the coastline.

One of the highlights of the day was hopping on the Pittwater ferry, which carried me across to Palm Beach. Arriving there felt quite special — it’s a beautiful part of Australia with a relaxed coastal atmosphere and stunning surroundings. From there, the ride continued along the Northern Beaches, which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable sections of the day. The coastal views, ocean breeze, and winding roads made for a fantastic riding experience.

As I got closer to Sydney, things became more intense. The traffic increased significantly, and navigating through the city became quite challenging at times. There are so many roads, intersections, and cars that it can easily become confusing. It was a real contrast compared to the quieter coastal riding earlier in the day.

Despite the challenges, I successfully made it into Sydney and arrived at my accommodation at a backpackers hostel in Kings Cross safely. Reaching the city feels like a major milestone in this expedition.

I’ll now be taking a couple of days off the bike to spend some time exploring Sydney as a tourist before continuing the journey south.
