This was Day 13 of my cycling journey from Brisbane to Melbourne, and today’s ride took me from Blueys Beach to Boolambayte. I woke up beside the ocean at Blueys Beach after spending the night camping right by the water. It was a beautiful way to start the morning, with fresh sea air, the sound of the waves, and one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen so far on the trip.

However, today also turned into a much tougher ride than I expected. One of the challenges was that I did not start the day with fully recharged batteries, which later made things more difficult once I reached the hills. The ride began quite comfortably along the coast, but as the day progressed I encountered many steep climbs.

Riding the Trike Bike CHILL while carrying a trailer and all of my camping equipment makes the overall setup quite heavy. On flat ground this is not a problem at all — in fact, the tricycle rides very easily even without battery assistance. But when the road starts climbing and the hills become long and steep, the extra weight makes electric assistance extremely important.

As the hills continued, my battery eventually became flat, and on one of the steep sections I had to push the trike up the hill, which was very exhausting, especially in the heat. At that moment I was quite far from any towns, so I had to search for somewhere I could recharge.

Fortunately, I was lucky once again. I met a very kind elderly gentleman who offered to let me recharge my batteries. Not only that, but he also kindly offered me a place to stay in his guest house for the night, which was incredibly generous and very much appreciated after such a demanding day.

Even though today was physically challenging, the scenery along the way was still beautiful, with quiet roads, forests, and countryside. Experiences like this remind me that long-distance travel is not only about the distance you ride, but also about the people you meet along the way.

Another tough but memorable day on the journey south.
